Dr Geoffrey Thorley
Consultant in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and Neuropsychology
Dr Thorley provides a service to solicitors and the Court as an expert witness for children, adolescents and young adults.
He has particular expertise in the assessment of mental health disorders and problems for children and young people up to 21 years of age. Assessments of possible brain injuries can also be undertaken for children and young people up to and including the age of 21 years of age. Litigation issues commonly arise from:-
- Road traffic accidents
- Assault and attacks
- Bullying
- Bereavement
- Sexual, physical and emotional abuse
- Medical negligence
- Educational negligence
- Food poisoning
- Chemical and gas poisoning
These events frequently give rise to mental health problems and disorders including post-traumatic stress, phobias, adjustment disorders, depression and anxiety states. Brain injuries may result in a wide range of cognitive impairments with even the most minor ones being associated with memory and concentration difficulties.
Please note that assessments for the Criminal and Family Court are not undertaken. Instructions for limited (pre-litigation) screening reports are welcome as are low value RTA claims where we work within recommended rates and use the RTA3 report form.
Dr Thorley also provides therapy services for young people affected by personal injury. He is highly experienced in Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Hypnosis/Guided Imagery.
